SQL 2005 SP1

Looks like MS has released the first service pack for SQL Server 2005. A list of fixes can be found here.

The fix we are interested in is #911937 - “The schema that indicates the Identity column in the source database is not transferred to the destination database when you try to transfer objects from a source database to a destination database by using SQL Management Objects in SQL Server 2005″. This is major when you are making copies of databases for testing purposes.

Screen Resolution

The customer service department insists on running their screen resolution at 800×600 then complains that the Intranet and the ERP applications don’t fit on the screen. We tell them to simply move their resolution to 1024×768 and it will all work ok. To which they tell us they can’t read the screen anymore. The frustrating thing is that they actually have dual monitors and have more than enough screen resolution available to them. No one else in the company runs their computer at 800×600 and they can read the screens just fine.

I see this as a battle customer service is going to loose. Application and even websites are no longer written for such a low resolution screen. To be completely honest I would love to see the resolution they are running on their home computers, I can’t imagine that they have the resolution that horrible at home too.

UPDATE
Out of curiosity I queried our inventory database and what I found shocked me. About 40% of my users are running screen resolutions at 800×600! Even have one guy with one of the Dell Latitude D800, a laptop with native resolution of 1920 x 1200, being run at 800×600. Ugggggghhhhhhh!
